United Healthcare to Drop Thousands of Doctors From Medicare Advantage

Obamacare strikes again:

(Reuters) - UnitedHealth Group (UNH.N) dropped thousands of doctors from its networks in recent weeks, leaving many elderly patients unsure whether they need to switch plans to continue seeing their doctors, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
The insurer said in October that underfunding of Medicare Advantage plans for the elderly could not be fully offset by the company's other healthcare business. The company also reported spending more healthcare premiums on medical claims in the third quarter, due mainly to government cuts to payments for Medicare Advantage services.
The Journal report said that doctors in at least 10 states were notified of being laid off the plans, some citing "significant changes and pressures in the healthcare environment." According to the notices, the terminations can be appealed within 30 days.

For those of you who don't understand health care, there are a couple of key points in this short excerpt:

1. "underfunding of Medicare Advantage plans for the elderly could not be fully offset by the company's other healthcare business."

The underfunding of Medicare Advantage plans is where the $500 to $700 billion to "fund" Obamacare is coming from. When all of us conservatives were telling everyone that Barack the Terrible "paid for" his pet plan to destroy American health care by first destroying Medicare, the leftists were screaming that we were liars. Not even two months into this bumbled roll out and everyone is finding out we were right.  Additionally, the Obamacare masterminds are at the point now where they are not even trying to hide that fact that Obamacare is a huge scheme where the young and healthy are overcharged (read taxed) to pay for health care for the old and unhealthy. I believe one of Obama's masterminds described this as the winners of the genetic lottery paying their fair share for healthcare.

2.  "doctors in at least 10 states were notified of being laid off the plans, some citing "significant changes and pressures in the healthcare environment."

Taking the entire health care system of a large country like the United States and completely turning it upside down tends to cause "significant changes and pressures" that cause large insurers to have to scramble to keep up which means rearranging plans and dumping doctors.  The Obamacare genie is out of the bottle and just like you can't put toothpaste back in the tube, you can't undo the mess that is Obamacare without ripping it out at the roots. It is every other failed government attempt to meddle in healthcare times a thousand and seniors aren't the only ones who are going to be paying for this with their health if we don't cut the head off the serpent.
