I want to provide a tax cut for 95% of Americans. If you make less than a quarter of a million dollars a year, you will not see a single dime of your taxes go up. If you make $200,000 a year or less, your taxes will go down. Now, Sen. McCain talks about small businesses. Only a few percent of small businesses make more than $250,000 a year. The vast majority of small businesses would get a tax cut under my plan. And we provide a 50% tax credit so that they can buy health insurance for their workers, because there are an awful lot of small businesses that want to do right by their workers but they just can’t afford it.
With the new cigarette taxes, carbon taxes, taxes on health insurance premiums and the assertion that "allowing the Bush tax cuts to sunset isn't a tax increase" all of us should be clear that if The Messiah's lips are moving, he's lying when he’s talking about taxes (and everything else for that matter). As if all of these "I want to provide a tax cut" tax increases weren't enough, here comes the Value-Added Tax:
We all know the recent and bitter history of tax struggles in Washington, let alone Mr. Obama's pledge to exempt those earning less than $250,000 from higher income taxes. This suggests that, possibly next year, Congress will seriously consider a value-added tax (VAT). A bipartisan deficit reduction commission, structured like the one on Social Security headed by Alan Greenspan in 1982, may be necessary to create sufficient support for a VAT or other new taxes.
This from former Clinton treasury official Roger Altman at the bottom of a column where he lays out just how bleak the deficit picture really is -- again, something us rational folk were talking about back last fall when GW Bush took leave of his senses and started dumping money we didn't have into banks and insurance companies and auto companies and quasi-governmental home lending agencies and on and on. Which of course set the stage for The Messiah to engage in deficit spending that puts all of the deficit spending of all the other presidents COMBINED to shame. All in the name of "saving" an economy that just keeps spiraling downward despite the Obama Administration and their liberal media sycophant’s attempts to claim that recovery is right around the corner.
Stop and think hard for a minute about all the taxes you pay: Federal, state, FICA, Medicare all come out of your check before you even see it; onerous property taxes that go to fund huge, bloated schools that were supposed to be built with sales tax money - again a tax most of you never see because it's built into your house payment; gas tax, about 15% of the cost of a gallon of gas; sales taxes, anywhere from 5-7 cents to double-digits in some places; local payroll taxes, utility taxes, phone taxes, cable and satellite taxes, cell phone taxes. Now add to this a 15% value-added tax - read sales tax - on everything you buy. Now think about how you are going to make ends meet with what little money you have left over.
Consider this: BEFORE we accumulated this massive debt in the last year or so, it was believed that a flat tax of 18-21% would take care of all of the needs of the federal government with money to spare. Now they are talking about a 15% tax ON TOP of what you already pay. We are rushing quickly down the road to serfdom.
